What I Do
I write and sing songs, play guitar and make noise out of a myriad of other musical instruments. I call Sydney, where I have been performing for quite a few years now, home.I am about as independent a musical artist as you can get. I pretty much write, perform, record and produce everything myself with the odd exception.I have performed at scores of venues, some small, some large, in and around Sydney, as well as at folk clubs and festivals further afield.I have done some session guitar work and have played a variety of styles of music in a variety of bands, none of which, to my knowledge, has achieved much fame.Not being a great fan of band politics and temperamental egos, I steered towards solo performance. As a solo performer, I have shared the stage with other artists too numerous to count, some achieving more fame than others.My solo performances comprise myself and an acoustic guitar in the main, and on occasion I have played other instruments or been accompanied by a cellist, percussionist or vocalist.I taught myself how to sing and play, and first attempted penning songs as soon as I could string a couple of chords together.I suffer a phobia of being labelled and am by no means a purist when it comes to playing any particular genre. I think of myself as a singer songwriter musician and have had my music described as alternative/progressive/trance/new folk/rock in various reviews etc. though I prefer to let the music speak for itself.

New Album
In between working on a new acoustic album I have recorded a new purely instrumental album called Soliloquy (pronounced suh·li·luh·kwee) which has not one guitar on it....hence a bit of a departure from my previous releases.This is an ambient style album and is available for listening/purchase of both individual tracks and the album as a whole on my Bandcamp site.I had come to the decision that I will just keep recording material and releasing new albums in whatever genre takes my fancy at the time.Below is a working version of the title song of an album still very much in the works and nothing like the material on Soliloquy.

michael-john azzopardi (Self-Titled)
This is a remixed and remastered version of this album. Originally released April 2006 in CD, this was the first of a trilogy of folk styled albums which included traditional songs alongside original songs and instrumentals.
Room
Room was my debut album which I released in 1998 on CD. Essentially acoustic based Room also had guest appearances by Michael Ward on percussion, Michael Iwanski on piano accordian innards and Gabrielle 50s Kitsch on violin. Original CD still available.
